Diseases of the lower gastrointestinal tract are common, and offer a number of exciting challenges. Clinical, diagnostic and basic science research is in an age of rapid expansion. There is ever more demand from purchasers of health care and patients for clinicians to keep abreast of the latest research and developments, and to translate these into route practice. Technological advances in diagnosis, surgical technqiue, new pharmaceuticals, molecular genetics and other basic sciences, such as immunology, have all transformed many aspects of how diseases of the lower GI tract are managed. Such progress will, without doubt, accelerate in the future.
Colorectal Disease is a new journal that will offer real benefit to subscribers and authors. It is first and foremost a vehicle for publishing original research in any discipline relating to colorectal pathology. It should, therefore, appeal to gastroenterologists and surgeons, patholgoists, oncologists and any other health professional who cares for patients with a disease of the lower GI tract.
